Jakavi (Ruxolitinib) is a prescription medication that is used to treat people with an enlarged spleen and other symptoms of myelofibrosis, a rare type of blood cancer. Ruxolitinib belongs to the class of medications known as JAK inhibitors. It works by blocking the body from producing substances called growth factors. Growth factors cause the cells to grow and divide, and causes the blood cell and spleen problems found in these disorders. This medication does not cure these disorders but may help with some of the symptoms including abdominal discomfort, pain under left ribs, early feeling of fullness from meals, night sweats, itching and bone or muscle pain.
