Dapsone is a prescription antibacterial medication that is used to treat leprosy. It may be used in combination with other medications. Dapsone belongs to the sulfone family of antibiotics. This medication works by decreasing swelling (inflammation) and stopping the growth of bacteria. Dapsone will not work for viral infections like common cold, flu. Dapsone works best if it is taken at the same time each day.

The common side effects may include blurred vision, dizziness, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting. The unlikely but serious side effects may include:
• Bluish lips or skin;
• Difficulty urinating;
• Mental or mood changes;
• Muscle weakness;
• Pain in the chest;
• Unusually fast breathing
You should not take Dapsone if you are allergic to it or if you are allergic to similar drugs such as sulfoxone and if you have any other allergies. Before you start using this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical conditions and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. This drug may make you dizzy. Limit alcoholic beverages. This medication should not be used during pregnancy unless it is clearly needed. This medication passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before you breast-feed a baby. There may be an interaction between Dapsone and other medications such as clarithromycin, hydroxychloroquine, nicardipine, quinine, rifabutin, rifampin, etc.
