Cyklokapron (Tranexamic Acid) is a prescription medication used to prevent and reduce excessive bleeding in patients with certain conditions such as dental surgery, cervical surgery, heavy menstrual bleeding, nose bleeds and bleeding inside the eye. Tranexamic acid is a man-made form of amino acid called lysine. This medication is used when the body breaks down blood clots too fast, not allowing the bleeding to stop and the wound to heal. Tranexamic acid belongs to the class of medications called antifibrinolytic agents. This medication works by helping the blood clot normally to prevent and stop prolonged bleeding. Tranexamic Acid is taken with or without food as directed by the doctor, usually two tablets three times a day.

We currently offer the brand Cyklokapron from Canada manufactured by Pfizer. The generic Tranexamic Acid is available from available from India also called Trapic by Sun Pharma and Canada also called MAR-Tranexamic Acid by Marcan Pharmaceuticals. Cyklokapron and the generic Tranexamic Acid are both available in the strength of 500 mg tablets.
The common side effects of Tranexamic Acid may include diarrhea, dizziness, nausea and vomiting.
Check with your doctor as soon as possible if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Dizziness;
• Impaired colour vision;
• Low blood pressure;
• Signs of a blood clot in blood vessels;
• Vision changes

Do not use Cyklokapron if you are allergic to Tranexamic Acid or if you have any other allergies. Birth control pills increase the risk of developing blood clots. Takingthis medication along with birth control may increase your risk of developing blood clots. Tranexamic Acid may cause drowsiness or dizziness and also affect your vision, which will affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. Cyklokapron should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks. Tranexamic Acid passes into breast milk in very small amounts. Talk to your doctor before breast-feeding a baby. There may be a drug interaction between Tranexamic Acid and other medications such as fibrinogen, estrogens and progesterones and tretinoin.
