Cetrotide injection SC (Cetrorelix acetate) is a prescription medication used to treat symptoms of infertility in women. The drug is used during assisted reproductive techniques to prevent premature ovulation (early release of eggs from the ovary). If the eggs are released too early, it may be impossible for your doctor to harvest them. The active ingredient in Cetrotide is Cetrorelix. Cetrorelix belongs to a class of drugs called anti-gonadotropin-releasing hormones. It works by blocking the release of a natural hormone in the body called luteinizing hormone, which causes ovulation. This prevents premature ovulation, allowing the eggs to grow properly and be suitable for techniques such as in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while receiving Cetrotide. The most common side effects of Cetrotide may include the following:
• Headache;
• Nausea;
• Pain, bruising, or redness at the injection site

Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Breathing difficulties;
• Decreased urine production;
• Dizziness;
• Fast or uneven pulse;
• Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) symptoms present with lower abdominal pain and nausea or vomiting;
• Warm, itchy, or red skin in the groin or armpits;
• Weight gain

These are not all of the side effects of Cetrotide. Always contact your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.

You should not receive Cetrotide if you are allergic to Cetrorelix or any ingredient in Cetrotide. Before you start receiving this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are allergic to other peptide hormones;
• Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant;
• Have liver disease;
• Have severe kidney disease

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Cetrotide and other medicines. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Cetrotide will harm an unborn baby and cause congenital disabilities. It is not known if Cetrotide is excreted in breast milk. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Cetrotide may harm a nursing infant. Use Cetrotide precisely as prescribed by your doctor. The drug is administered by injection under the skin of the lower abdomen. Do not take it by mouth. Your doctor will supervise the first injection and watch closely for severe allergic reactions. You may administer further injections if your doctor has monitored your reactions and told you what to do if they appear. Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before administering the injection. Use the syringe and needles only once. Dispose of them properly after use. Cetrotide is used together with other medicines to stimulate your ovaries and develop more eggs to be released. You may develop symptoms of OHSS while receiving these medicines. This is when your follicles develop too much and become large cysts. Contact your doctor if you notice any severe side effects. Keep Cetrotide away from the sight and reach of children. Store in a refrigerator (20C – 80C). Do not freeze or place next to a freezer compartment.
