Cardizem LA (Diltiazem LA) is a prescription medication that is used to treat high blood pressure and prevent chest pain. Diltiazem belongs to the class of medications called calcium-channel blockers. It works by relaxing the blood vessels so the heart does not have to pump as hard which lowers the heart rate and blood pressure. It also increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart. This medication may help to increase your ability to exercise and decrease how often you may get angina attacks. Cardizem LA is taken before meals and at bedtime or as directed by your doctor usually 3 to 4 times a day.
