Baraclude (Entevacir) is a prescription medication used to treat chronic hepatitis B infection caused by hepatitis B virus (HBV) in adults and children who are at least two years old and weigh at least 22 pounds. Entevacir is an antiviral medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as hepatitis B virus nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of this enzyme. This stops the virus from multiplying. Entecavir lowers the amount of hepatitis B virus in the body. A long-term infection of hepatitis B can cause liver damage, liver cancer and liver failure.
