Bactrim (Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim) are both antibiotics used to treat different types of bacterial infections such as bronchitis, ear infections, Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia, shigellosis, and traveler’s diarrhea and urinary tract infections. This medication works by stopping the growth of the bacteria that causes the infection. It blocks two consecutive steps in the biosynthesis of nucleic acids and proteins essential to bacteria. Bactrim does not work against infections caused by viruses, such as colds and flu.

Our Canadian Pharmacy also carries the generic Bactrim from Canada. The brand is not available at this time. Bactrim is available in the dosage of 400 mg/80 mg and 800 mg/160 mg DS tablets.
The common side effects of Bactrim may include diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting.
Talk to your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Blurred vision;
• Dizziness;
• Extreme drowsiness;
• Fast heartbeat;
• Hunger;
• Mental or mood changes;
• Muscle weakness;
• Signs of low blood sugar;
• Signs of kidney problems;
• Tingling hands or feet
Get medical help right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as neck stiffness, persistent headache, seizures and slow or irregular heartbeat.
You should not take Bactrim if you are allergic to Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim of if you have any other allergies. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical conditions and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. This medication may make you more sensitive to the sun. Limit your time in the sun. Avoid tanning booths and sunlamps. Check your blood sugar regularly if you have diabetes as Bactrim may affect your blood sugar. Bactrim is not recommended for use during pregnancy because it may harm an unborn baby. This medication passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breast-feeding.
