Aptiom (Eslicarbazepine) is the prescription medication that is used with other medications to treat epilepsy. Aptiom is an anticonvulsant. This medication works by decreasing nerve impulses that cause seizures and pain. This medication is usually taken once a day.

You should not use Aptiom if you are allergic to eslicarbazepine or oxcarbazepine. Before you start taking the medication, talk to your doctor about your medical condition and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. Do not start or stop taking Aptiom during pregnancy without your doctor’s advice. Having a seizure during pregnancy could harm both mother and baby. Inform your doctor right away if you become pregnant while taking Eslicarbazepine for seizures. This medication can make birth control pills less effective. Eslicarbazepine can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not breast-feed while using this medicine. Do not give this medication to anyone under 18 years old without medical advice.
