Anusol HC (Hydrocortisone/Zinc) is a prescription medication used to treat hemorrhoids and itching and swelling in the rectum and anus. Hemorrhoids, also known as piles, are swollen veins in the anus and lower rectum. Hemorrhoids can be internal or external, depending on whether they grow inside the rectum or around the anus. Anusol HC may also be used to treat discomfort after surgery to the anal area. This medication may also be used in combination with other medicines to treat ulcerative colitis. The active ingredients in Anusol HC are Hydrocortisone and Zinc. Hydrocortisone belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It works by reducing swelling, irritation, and itching. Zinc belongs to a class of medications called astringents. It works by soothing and protecting raw areas.
