Altace HCTZ (Ramipril/Hydrochlorothiazide) is used to treat high blood pressure. It also helps to improve survival after a heart attack in high risk patients with heart disease, or diabetes, and is used to treat heart failure in patients who have suffered a recent heart attack. Lowering high blood pressure can help prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as ACE Inhibitors. It works by relaxing blood vessels, which reduces stress on your heart and lowers blood pressure.

We currently offer the brand Altace HCTZ from Canada by Bausch Health and from Turkey also called Delix Plus by Sanofi Aventis. The generic Ramipril HCTZ comes from Canada by a different manufacturer.

Seek emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction to this medication. The common side effects of Altace HCTZ may include chest pain, cough, diarrhea, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and weakness or tiredness.

Contact your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur:
• Fast or uneven heart rate;
• High levels of potassium;
• Low blood pressure;
• Low white blood cell count;
• Purple spots on your skin;
• Swelling;
• Symptoms of liver problems;
• Symptoms of worsening kidney function

You should not take Altace HCTZ if you are allergic to Ramipril or Hydrochlorothiazide or other ACE inhibitors or to other thiazides. Do not use this medication if you have:
• A history of Angioedema;
• An inability to make urine

Prior to taking this medication, tell your doctors about your medical history and if you have ever had:
• Blood exchange procedures;
• Dehydration;
• Gout;
• Kidney or liver disease;
• Lupus;
• Skin cancer;
• Untreated mineral imbalance

This medication may make you dizzy. Alcohol and marijuana can make dizzier. You should not drive use machinery or do anything that requires you to be alert until you are sure you can do it safely. Limit alcoholic beverages. This medication may make you more sensitive to the sun and may increase your risk of skin cancer if taken for a long time. Limit your time in the sun and avoid tanning booths and sunlamps. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. This product may increase your potassium levels. Before using potassium supplements or salt substitutes that contain potassium, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Older adults may more sensitive to the side effects of this medication. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, nonprescription, herbal products, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Altace HCTZ and other medications. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
