Albuterol (Salbutamol) is an inhalant medication use to treat bronchospasm attacks associated with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic bronchitis, and other breathing problems. Salbutamol belongs to a class of medications called bronchodilators, and works by relaxing the muscles of the airways into the lungs, which makes it easier to breathe. Albuterol nebulizer solution is used only through a nebulizer. Using a mouthpiece or face mask with the nebulizer, inhale the prescribed dose of medication into your lungs. Albuterol nebulizer solution is a quick-relief medication is used for sudden relief of asthma symptoms. It will typically begin working within 5 to 15 minutes after treatment and can usually be administered every three to four hours as directed by your doctor.

The generic Salbutamol is available from Canada and India also called Asthalin Respule by Cipla in dosages of 1.25 mg/2.5 ml/20 neb, 2.5 mg/2.5 ml/20 neb, and 5 mg/2.5 ml/20 neb.
Common side effects Albuterol may include feeling shaky, jittery, or agitated, faster heartbeat shortly after taking it (but no chest pain), headaches, or muscle cramps. Contact your doctor immediately if you notice any more serious side effects such as:
• Chest pain, especially if you have a fast or irregular heartbeat;
• Severe dizziness, fainting;
• Severe headache;
• Signs of low potassium levels (muscle pain or weakness, muscle cramps, irregular heartbeat)
This is not a complete list of side effects, and others may occur. Contact your doctor if these side effects persist or worsen.
You should not use Albuterol if you are allergic to salbutamol or any other ingredients of the medication, or if you are allergic to lactose, milk protein, or milk. To make sure this medication is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had an overactive thyroid gland, heart or blood vessel problems, an irregular heartbeat, high blood pressure, diabetes (high sugar levels in your blood), or if you have ever had an allergic reaction to any similar medications. It is very important that any breathing disorders are controlled during pregnancy. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant in order to discuss any possible risks. It is not known if this medication passes into breast milk or if it will harm a nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. You should not use this medication more than four times in 24 hours. If you feel the need to use it more than four times in one day, contact your doctor as your breathing disorder may be worsening. As well, if you need to use this medication more than two days of each week, or in the middle of the night at least once a week, contact your doctor. Avoid smoking while using this medication. Smoking irritates the lungs and will make your breathing problem worse. Speak to your doctor if you're finding it hard to stop smoking.
This medication can make you feel dizzy or shaky. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how this medication will affect you. Albuterol may interact with several medications, especially amphetamines, antipsychotics, beta blockers, diuretics (water pills), decongestant cold medications, other bronchodilators, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), protein kinase inhibitors, quinoline antibiotics, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), serotonin antagonists, and tricyclic antidepressants. This is not a complete list of interactions, and others may occur. Tell your doctor about any medications, vitamins, or herbal supplements you are currently taking or have recently taken in order to reduce the risk of any possible interactions. This medication is not approved for use in children under the age of four.
