Addyi (Flibanserin) is a prescription medication that is used for the treatment of Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD) in pre-menopausal women. This medication is used in women who have concerns about their low sexual desire. Addyi is a psychotropic medication. Flibanserin works by raising levels of dopamine and norepinephrine which increases sexual desire, while lowering the levels of serotonin which is thought to be the reason for low sexual desire. This medication acts specifically on serotonergic neurons in the brain and has indirect effects on dopamine and norepinephrine. Flibanserin may help ease up on the serotonin to boost your libido. Addyi is a pill that is taken once a day at bedtime. Flibanserin usually starts to show positive effects two to four weeks after a woman begins taking the drug.
